I’ll kick this discussion off:
- Both the Nook & Sony Readers work well with PCs and Mac.
- Every user will need Adobe Digital Editions and an Adobe ID to transfer the DRM eBooks to their portable reader.
- The reader must be authenticated with the same user ID as the computer used to transfer the eBook.
- If ADE does not automatically detect your reader to authorize it, closed ADE and disconnect your reader. Reopen ADE and connect the reader.
- Adobe allows six devices (computers/readers) to use the same Adobe ID at once.
- To deauthorize a computer (from your Adobe account): Ctrl-Shift-D.
- To deauthorize a reader (again, from your Adobe account): Ctrl-Shift-E.
Sony Reader:
- The Sony Reader also uses the Sony Reader Library software.
- When downloading a recently checked out eBook, “open” the file with Reader Library. It will automatically be transferred to the reader.
- To return an eBook early, with your reader plugged into the computer, go into Reader Library software and right-click on the title.
The Nook:
- The Nook can just use the Adobe Digital Editions to transfer eBooks to the device.
- When downloading a recently checked out eBook, open the file with Adobe Digital Editions.
- Drag and drop the eBook from the center section of ADE to your Nook, which should be listed on the left sidebar of ADE.
