I often have trouble reestablishing a wireless Internet connection with my Vista laptop. The small icon showing a network connection will state that I’m connected to the network, but with local access only. Here’s what I do to fix this:

  1. Click on the small network icon in the lower-right corner of the screen. (It looks like a double computer screen.) A small dialog box will open.
  2. Click on “Network and Sharing Center.”
  3. Click on the small, red “x” to diagnose the problem.
  4. Click on “Automatically get new IP settings for the network adapter “Wireless network Connection.”
  5. You’ll see the “Repairing” box…
  6. And that normally fixes things for me.

I hope this works for you!
